Dear Ms. Welker,
I am reading The Hardy Boys, The Tower Treasure by Franklin W. Dixon. Before I started to read, I made a prediction. My prediction was based on the chapter’s title “The Speed Demon”. This chapter is going to be about a person that is a speed demon. Which means this person will be traveling very fast. Maybe in a car or on a scooter. While I was reading I had a few questions. My first question is who is the speed demon? My second question is why they are called the speed demon? I kept reading and found the answer to my question. The first answer to my first question is two boys named Frank and Joe Hardy. They are the speed demons. The second answer to my second question is because they are riding their motorcycles very fast. That is why they are called the speed demons. I did not understand the word embankment. I used my schema and I broke down the word. Embankment means up a steep angle or mound. This is a really interesting book. I can’t wait to finish the rest of the book.

Good work for your first post Alyssa! You hit all the basic parts of a post: predict, question, and clarify. I am interested in how you figured out the word embankment, what did you have in your schema that helped you figure it out? Where were Frank and Joe going when they were riding so quickly? Try to add in a few more details to help me understand the book and see what is going on in your head! :)
